Strategic Governance and Institutional Oversight
The Board of Management is the highest statutory authority at Sikkim Global Technical University (SGTU). It is responsible for shaping the university's long-term strategic direction, governance framework, and policy-making. The Board plays a crucial role in ensuring that SGTU fulfills its vision of providing high-quality, inclusive, and industry-relevant technical education.
Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, the Board of Management is composed of experienced educators, senior administrators, government representatives, and distinguished external members from academia and industry. This diverse group brings a wide range of expertise to guide the university's academic, financial, and administrative policies. To conduct official meetings, a quorum of two-thirds of the members is required.
Objectives of the Board of Management
- To ensure good governance, transparency, and accountability at all levels.
- Guide the university’s development in accordance with state and national higher education priorities.
- Approve and oversee institutional policies related to academics, finance, administration, and infrastructure.
- Strengthen partnerships with industry, academia, and regulatory bodies.
- Promote innovation, research, and skill-based learning.
Core Functions of the Board
- Policy and Strategic Planning: Formulates, approves, and monitors university-wide policies, long-term plans, and institutional goals.
- Academic Oversight: Considers recommendations of the Academic Council regarding academic regulations, program launches, and curriculum enhancements.
- Financial Supervision: Approves annual budgets, financial statements, and investment plans; ensures financial sustainability and accountability.
- Administrative Affairs: Reviews appointments, service conditions, disciplinary matters, and structural organization of the university.
- Infrastructure Development: Sanctions capital projects, land acquisitions, and development of physical and digital infrastructure.
- Regulatory and Government Compliance: Ensures adherence to regulations of statutory bodies such as UGC, AICTE, PCI, etc., and incorporates government directives.
- Institutional Development and Collaboration: Promotes collaboration with national and international institutions, industries, and research organizations.
